Conference: GMC Division: IV
Head Coach: Tony Tear
Years at School: 6th Overall Record: 61-57
2016-2017 Record: 16-8
2016-2017 Tournament Result: Lost to Hilltop in Sectional Final
Offensive Style: Dribble Drive with lots of spacing and room for guards to drive.
Defensive Style: Pressure Man-to-Man
Strengths: Team speed and quickness should be our biggest strengths this season. We will look to use our speed and quickness to pressure in the half court and full court on defense, as well as, push the ball and try to get easy baskets offensively. We also feel that we have a lot of position-less players that can make plays for themselves and their teammates. Finally, believe our four letter winners bring back a great deal of good experience that will help us.
Weaknesses: The biggest thing we will have to overcome this season is our size. We will not have a true post player this season and will have to use our penetration and playmaking ability to get paint touches. We will also have to use great positioning and all five guys on the floor to compete on the boards. We hope that our speed, physicality, and aggressiveness can make up for our size. Depth is also a concern, but we feel we have some very capable guys that can step in and give us great minutes this season.
Coach’s Comments: “Overall, we believe that we can be a good basketball team this season. If we commit to playing high-level defense, have some younger guys step in to give us some depth, and if we play unselfishly, we can have a successful year. The GMC will be very tough this season, as
every conference game should be a test. Wayne Trace and Ayersville have to be the favorites until somebody can knock them off.”
