Versailles jumped out to a huge 18-3 first quarter lead, but had to hold off the resurgent Redskins in the fourth quarter to secure a 66-55 win in a battle of state-ranked squads.
Ohio State commit Justin Ahrens scored a game-high 29 points, shooting 9 of 10 from the free throw line for the 10-1 Tigers.
Fort Loramie’s Dillon Braun knocked down four 3-pointers, finishing with 20 points in the loss. Evan Berning chipped in 12 points.
The second consecutive loss drops Fort Loramie to 8-2.
Fort Recovery 53, St. Marys 50
Fort Recovery’s second quarter surge led to a tight 53-50 win over St. Marys Tuesday.
After trailing at the end of the first quarter, the Indians outscored St. Marys 17-7 in the second stanza, before the two deadlocked each of the final two quarters.
Derek Jay’s game-high 18 points paced the Roughriders. Jacob Grannan chipped in 11 points in the loss.
Fort Recovery moves to 7-1 with win, while St. Marys falls to 3-6.
Botkins 56, Riverside 49
Riverside jumped out to an early 17-10 lead, but Botkins battled all the way back to grab a 56-49 win.
The Pirates were led by Trey Helminger’s 16 point, 6 rebound performance. Hank Harshbarger joined Helminger in double digits with 10 points.
“This one was tough,” Riverside head coach Seth Bodenmiller said. “I thought our guys played hard throughout, but we had some untimely mistakes. I think that the biggest difference in the game was free throws, though. We only made 9 and Botkins made 22. Now, we’ve got to come back and get ready for a conference game with Lehman on Friday.”
Russia 61, Fairlawn 54
Cole Tebbe’s 20 point, 5 rebound performance led Russia to a 61-54 win over Shelby County League foe Fairlawn Tuesday.
Jack Dapore poured in 12 more points for the 10-2 Raiders.
Fairlawn was led by Nathan Lessing’s 21 points and 9 rebounds. Lessing is now just 43 points away from becoming the all-time leading scorer in Shelby County history.
With the loss, Fairlawn falls to 7-2.
