WLIO’s Jayson Geiser reports that Delphos Jefferson head coach Chris Sommers has stepped down to pursue the opening head coaching position at Spencerville.
Sommers, who has spent the past three years at the helm of the Jefferson program, compiled a 28-7 record during his tenure. The Wildcats won three NWC championships and made the postseason in each of his three seasons.
Sources tell 419Sports.com that Sommers hasn’t actually interviewed for the open position at Spencerville at this time. He has simply informed Delphos Jefferson AD Dave Huffman, and his players, that he is stepping down to pursue the opportunity.
Sommers becomes the third local football coach to step down since the end of the season, and the third playoff coach to resign. Upper Scioto Valley’s Josh Spencer resigned Wednesday, while former Spencerville coach John Zerbe resigned on December 15th.
Just spoke with Jefferson football coach Chris Sommers, who tells me he has informed his players and AD that he will be resigning that post.
